Mother Wood Duck's children are all excellent swimmers—all except one who does nothing but swim round and round in a circle because one foot is bigger than the other. All the forest animals laugh at him, until the day the duckling's disability helps him save all the other ducklings, and he becomes a hero.

Wildsmith's trademark brilliant colors and richly textured patterns are used to full effect in these oversize books. [cf2]Woodpecker[cf1] details the conflict between a night-loving owl and the noisy woodpecker who takes up residence in his tree. In [cf2]Duck[cf1], the main character is ridiculed because he can only swim in circles. Both books offer gentle lessons about respecting differences and learning to co-exist.
